New composition is called "West". This is a simple example of
lyrical vocal in almost academic piece with characteristic phrase
changes in Tempo and Dynamics. PMStyle have calculated:
- Tempo changes
- Velocity changes
- Auto phrasing
- Harmonics curve
- Pitch Bend gliding and melismas
- Parameters of "Vibrato Objects"
- Noise curve
No manual tweaking at all!
To analyze the result yourself you can take the following files in
mp3 and *.mid format:
Note: Initial MIRIAM settings were changed just a little: Harmonics
= 70, Noise = 45.

In early April '98 I received an invitation to submit my
compositions to the PAE'98 competition (Austria). I then created
"Through Previous Incarnations". It consists of three parts in
different manners. Tunes of Part 2 and Part 3 (West
and East) are the result of harmonic and rhythmic transformations
of the Tune of Part 1 (One
Step Between Love and Hatred) done with Pattern Variator v1.0.
"West" is the middle part of this old composition. All performance
nuances, as well as accompaniment tracks (Guitar in West and Drums in
East) were calculated by Style Enhancer, the only things done by hand
were Master Volume Balance, Tempo Changes between Parts, G.FretNoise
and Tempo Changes of Part 3 (East).
Unfortunately, back then, in April '98, I didn't have Yamaha
Vocaloid :-), but now "West" is a fully modeled composition: My
special thanks to Alexei Yakovlev for writing the lyrics!

"West" is a vivid example of female vocal intoning, close to
academic manner of singing. Smooth curves of the melody are not
deprived, however, of tense leaps to large intervals, which add inner
expressiveness and excitement to the overall sounding. Timbre palette
is full of soft colors of acoustic guitar arpeggio, creating
transparent and airy musical texture.

This medieval style -
Forests and green glens,
Towers of stone.
And amazing tales.
Dragons and kings, magic swords.
Tales for young and old.
Could you tell what is real,
What is not?
You would want to try
This majestic life
But it is like catching the wind.
And you seek new home
In the ancient woods,
Under deep blue lakes,
On top of high hills.
When you reach the end
Finding your true self
You'll forget you went
On this search to find
Way to your own paradise
